Leucate Plage, still within 45 minutes of La Maison Des Vignes and our favourite beach, is sheltered by the cliffs that overlook the resort. The village of Leucate has the feel of a typical Mediterranean village and from here it is possible to hike to the Cap Leucate nature reserve or join one of the organised visits to the oyster beds.
Valras-Plage has sand that stretches for 4 km and the beach is a great place for families to swim safely. This resort has plenty of restaurants and cafes in the charming streets radiating from the beach and if you are feeling lucky there is even a casino.
If you fancy a change from the beach, Lac de Jouarres is only 5 km from La Maison Des Vignes, covers 296 acres and even in the height of summer it is never crowded.
During the summer season the lifeguards keep a watchful eye on the shingle beach (it’s worth bringing some swim shoes if you have sensitive feet) and there are plenty of grassed areas to safely play, relax in the sunshine or simply snooze in the shade of one of the many trees. Lac de Jouarres has plenty of car parking as well as a snack bar that is open all day.
