Walking

Enjoy walking amongst the spectacular scenery of the vineyards, the Black Mountains or for the more adventurous the Pyrenees are a short distance away. Many local villages, including Tourouzelle have marked walks that cover different types of terrain and are suitable for walkers of all different levels. There is an extensive network of well-marked footpaths in the region, making rambling in the area very easy. The Federation Française de la Randonnée Pédestre publishes guides detailing both Grande Randonnée (GR) and Petite Randonnée (PR) walks, and with 38 paths in Aude and 40 paths in neighbouring Hérault you are sure to find plenty of suitable walks.

The walks are usually marked with blue (2hr walk), yellow (2hr 15m – 3hr 45m) or green (4hr – 6hr) marks.

As well as the PR & GR guides, the local tourist office publishes a guide of marked walks within the immediate area.

One of these walks starts from the centre of Tourouzelle, and along the route you will discover the small chapel of Ste-Cécile, which was once the site of a former leper colony .

The guides for all these trails will be available in each gite.
